Protection Training
Protection Training WILL NOT make your dog aggressive, it will actually make them more obedient and controlled as we teach the dog to look to you for what to do.
Protection Training is aimed at teaching dogs to protect their owners or property. While it may sound scary to some people it is a great way to not only bond deeply with your dog, but a great addition to obedience training. Training these dogs can quickly add up so we have found the best cost/benefit is group sessions. These cost $50/session and are done on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month and consist of you and your dog working on your own individual pace with us. You’ll get to see dogs at all different levels, meet others with similar interests and just have an overall good time. We encourage anyone to come check out a group event free of charge so CONTACT US in advance to let us know you’re coming please. Prior to enrolling a dog in the training we do have some prerequisites, this is to ensure that the dog is not only ready and able to do the work, but also willing to. The last thing we want is to waste someone’s time and money as unfortunately not all dogs have the temperament to “do the work”. We also highly encourage you to reach out prior to purchasing a dog, or as soon as possible afterwards, as there are many things we can work on while the dog is still a puppy to give them a head start.
What we look for prior to enrollment
Basic Obedience Foundation
Before starting protection training, a dog needs to have a solid foundation in basic obedience. Commands such as “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “heel,” and “down” are critical for the dog to understand what we want from them.
Socialization
A well-socialized and stable dog is better equipped to handle different people, environments, and situations. Socialization helps a dog differentiate between normal situations and those that may require a protective response.
Prey and Defense Drive
In protection training we use the dogs natural instincts of prey and defense drive to facilitate our training. We test and stimulate these instincts in a controlled way, using toys or other objects to motivate the dog. The goal is to channel these instincts into protective actions when required.
